Tamil Nadu medical students can now see a new ray of hope for quality education and more seats as the Prime Minister opens brand new institutes in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 11 esteemed government medical colleges in Tamil Nadu. Modi inaugurated the medical colleges virtually through a ceremony on Wednesday. He also opened the Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT) new building on the same day. He said on Wednesday that the number of medical colleges in the country has increased by 54%. India accounted for 387 medical colleges in India in 2014; however, India has close to 526 medical colleges.

In the presence of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted an inauguration ceremony through video conferencing. The Prime Minister added, "the inauguration of the new medical schools is for the health benefits of the future and for bolstering people's connection to their culture." He further added, "In 2014, our country had around 82,000 medical undergraduate and postgraduate seats. This number has increased to 1.48 lakh, an increase of more than 80%." Denoting a sharp increase in medical undergraduate and postgraduate seats in the past eight years, it is justified that the country needs more medical colleges.

The colleges are established in Virudhunagar, Namakkal, Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Tiruvallur, Nagapattinam, Dindigul, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Ramanathapuram, and Krishnagiri districts. The colleges will also create a cumulative capacity of 1450 medical seats for aspiring students. Prime Minister Narendra Modi added that the future belongs to societies that invest in healthcare. The government has also introduced many reforms in the medical sector.

Prime Minister Modi said, "Compete and Conquer is the mantra of new India."

During the video conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "compete and conquer is the new mantra of new India with the youth writing the code of global prosperity."

Wednesday also marked the auspicious occasion of 25th National Youth Day that is celebrated annually to mark the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. While addressing the event, PM Modi mentioned how India is entering the golden age of start-ups, and their riding strength is the Indian Youth.

The new medical colleges established all across the state of Tamil Nadu will provide affordable medical education. They will also work towards improving the health infrastructure of the country. The colleges are set up under the centrally-sponsored scheme of establishing new medical colleges attached to existing hospitals as referrals. This initiative will help more than 1.5 crore people in the districts and the adjoining areas.
